Why it exists
The people who know most about what a job is really like are the people with the most to lose by saying so. Someone still working somewhere can tell you exactly which manager takes credit for other people’s work — and cannot tell you under their own name.
So the anonymity is not a feature bolted on for comfort. It is the precondition for the information existing at all. Everything technical about this platform follows from taking that seriously.
The second half is credibility. Anonymous claims are easy to dismiss, which is why verification matters: confirm you actually worked somewhere, keep the badge, drop the name. A verified anonymous review is worth more than a named one from someone who was never there.
How it works
Anonymity that actually holds
Your handle is derived by HMAC from a secret only the server holds, scoped per company so a repeat reviewer is recognisable but a posting history cannot be assembled. An anonymous post carries no author id in any API response — not a hash, not a token. Null.
Verified without being named
Confirm a work email and keep the badge while dropping the name. "Verified ex-employee, name withheld" is the most useful sentence a review can carry, and it is the one LinkedIn structurally cannot offer.
A negative review is not a violation
Content stays up if it is a genuine account of your own experience — even if it is harsh, even if the company disputes it. We remove doxxing, harassment and fabrication. We do not remove criticism.
Companies can respond, not delete
A company representative can claim their page, correct the facts about the business, and reply to any review. There is no process, at any price, by which a review is taken down because it is unflattering.
The ranking is published
The trending formula is printed on the trending page. On a platform where ranking decides which criticisms get seen, an opaque algorithm is a reasonable thing to be suspicious of.
